Geothermal Ground Loop Design

The heat pump is the heart of a geothermal system and the forced air or radiant system acts as the arteries and veins but the ground loop is the lungs. As such the ground loop must be designed to handle the needs of the system within the environment it is placed. Although the ground loop will, hopefully, be installed and forgotten, it is crucial that it can handle the demands placed upon it since modification or replacement is very expensive. Good design using appropriate parameters with sufficient conservatism is essential.
Blue Valley Energy has considerable experience in designing ground loops for geothermal heating and cooling systems. Our location in Boulder, Colorado means that we regularly design loops for systems in the mountains and on the plains. The geology we cover ranges from alluvial fill, to sand and shale to solid granite. The weather conditions for which we are designing range from the mountain winter cold to the hot summer on the plains. We have been forced to pay great attention to thte ambient ground temperature and the effective conductivity in the areas we work to ensure that our designs are efficient and capable of providing the necessary heating and cooling. No matter whether we are bidding a full geothermal installation for you or just designing the ground loop for your area and needs, you can be assured that we shall be sufficiently conservative to ensure that your needs are met. We do not believe in taking chances with your system just to save a few dollars.
We can design or check your design wherever you are located. Give us a call and let us help you.
For some large projects conductivity testing may be necessary. Refer to our page on conductivity testing for more details. |
